Dr. Science

He knows more than you do.

[Dr. Science Homepage]

Dr. Science is a really funny guy who gets a two minute spot on a lot of NPR (boring usually, I know) stations. He gets asked serious science questions and then concocts silly answers to them. Here's the one I wrote to him:

Dear Doctor Science,
Why are there only five isomorphism classes of groups of order eight?

-- John Baber from Harrison, CA

Nobody could figure out what eight order isomorphism was long enough to put it in more than five classes. The International Society of Lonely Geeks ran an add for two consecutive years, but only got one response, from the same person that came up with the first five classes. A very thin woman dressed in black offered to create six classes of order five, but the Society wasn't interested in funding such a crazy idea. Can you blame them?

I'm not really from Harrison, CA, though.
